Zachary Deom Stepping Aside at MCK

K1037 News has learned that there will be at least two open positions for Chief in the upcoming Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) elections. Coming off an honour this week after helping to create the new city of Montreal Flag, Christine Zachary Deom says she is retiring. Zachary Deom has been an MCK Chief for the last six years after spending a decade in the legal department. The former judge and Criminal Lawyer was also a teacher in Kahnawake for more than a decade. The MCK elections are set for Saturday July 7th. The nominations must occur at least 30 days before the election. Previously Chief Clinton Phillips announced that he will not run. Zachary Deom will appear on Tetewahtha:ren next Friday April 20th from Noon-1pm.
