The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake’s budget for this fiscal year.  The budget is just over $51 million, and it’s the first time it’s over $50 million. Also for the first time in over 5 years, the MCK has an operating surplus of $1.6 million.  A portion of the operating surplus will also be put towards the MCK’s new 5 year strategic plan. Additionally, the $25 million gained from selling Continent 8 Technologies has been stored into an Investment Reserve. This was done for the MCK to earn income. However, Grand Chief Joe Tokwiro Norton said that if an investment opportunity comes that can financially secure the community, the money may be used.
