K1037 News has learned that there will be major work on the Southbound or Kahnawake bound portion of the Mercier bridge at some point this spring and summer. Transports Quebec has confirmed to K1037 that the span will receive a new roadway, have the weakening railings replaced, that the steel underneath the roadway will be sandblasted and painted. MTQ says the contract for the work will be signed shortly. However, they could not say when the work will begin. Although the MTQ could not confirm the configuration for drivers – typically in the last few years they have employed counterflow traffic, meaning 1 lane in each direction on the other span. Work is also continuing on the pillars underneath the bridge in Kahnawake.
