K1037 News has learned that the work blitz this summer on the Mercier Bridge will take place beginning on Friday June 22nd. The southbound or Kahnawake bound portion of the Quebec span will be shut down for a period of 8 weeks according to Sterling Deer a co-owner and partner in the Mohawk Bridge Consortium, the Kahnawake company that has been contracted to perform the work. It is expected that they will remove the temporary Jertsey barriers that have been in place since 2010. The guardrails will then be rebuilt. MBC is stepping up their work underneath the span to reinforce the span. Some overnight and weekend closures are likely before that. Traffic will be down to 1 lane in each direction for the bridge throughout the 8 weeks from June 22nd scheduled until August 20th. No word on when the span will be replaced – after it was announced last year.
